Make A Graphic Portfolio in Three Steps

If you want to get a job, you need to present your skills and work in the right manner. This is especially important in graphic design. When it comes to graphic design, in particular, the best way to do so is by making a portfolio. For that reason, we decided to give you some tips on how to make your graphic design portfolio.

TIP NUMBER ONE: SHOW OFF YOUR WORK

In business, it is important to show off your work and your skills. Present the work in the good light and you will catch the interest of your future employer. People, and especially business people, tend to make assumptions on what they see. Especially if they are busy. They do not have the time to check the work thoroughly. If they like it, then they will spend some time exploring it in details. If they do not like what they see, they just dismiss it. In graphic design, the easiest way to attract your future client and/or employer is to create a website. A website can be seen by everybody. In graphic design, people usually use Powerpoint to present their work. However, a website is an easier solution because you can always send a link. In addition, creating a website will tell your future client or employer that you possess more than one skill, and this will make you more interesting for business. Finally, making a good website, or even a Powerpoint presentation will give you some extra credit and it will show how good you are and how capable you are.

TIP NUMBER TWO: HAVE GOOD PRINTED SAMPLES

When you are making a graphic design portfolio, it is important to have printed samples as well. People love having an example in their hands. So prepare some examples for them to see. When you do so, pay attention to the print. The better the print, the more professional the sample will look. Do not save money on paper or color. Use the finest paper and spend the money on print. This will show neatness, perfectionism, and professionalism as well.

TIP NUMBER THREE: PRESENT JUST A FEW OF YOUR BEST PIECES

You must be proud of how many good graphic designs you have done so far. However, you should not show all of them. Pick just a few. For example, pick around 20 of your best pieces. This is enough for your future clients to see how good you are and what you can do. If you show all of your work, it may seem as if you are trying too hard. This can imply that you are not as good as you want to present yourself.
