Notice what happens to one of the Santas when we move him
from the background and near the horizon line
to the foreground without changing his size.

The ship has not changed in size. It has changed in location.
It has been moved towards the bottom of the picture frame,
into the foreground, away from the horizon line.
Now it looks like a toy.

 

 

 

The location of the houses have changed but not their size.

 

 

 

In this picture the closest house fills up more of the picture frame.
The second house is medium in size, in the middle of teh picture frame.
The thrid house is the smallest and sit almost on the horizon line.
