I have been wondering if the IMAGINATION is another sense, like hearing, touch, taste, seeing, and smell. I saw a special on TV about the senses. An experiment was created to see what part of the brain was being stimulated during two different ways of seeing. In one experiment a person was blindfolded. Images were spoken to them like bird, boat, doll, apple. Each time the person could see the image in their mind they pressed a button and a computer took a picture of their brain's activity. Then the experiement was repeated, this time with the person seeing real pictures of things, with the computer taking pictures of the brain. When the computer images were compared they discovered that the brain's activity was the same in both experiments. There was activity in the front, back, and on both sides of the brain. The brain has no distinction between reality and non-reality.
So what do you think? What do you see? Try this with a friend. Have them close their eyes and you feed them images, then trade, "see" what it's like. Take each on a guided visualization, take them to a childhood memory you have, like out in the woods. See how real it can be to you both.
This is one reason why art is so powerful, there is a place deep inside us that does not seperate reality from the imagination. This is a fundamental aspect of Shamanism, it is a place where reality and the imagination meet. It can also be a dangerous place if you are not grounded in your body and life, and it is full of adventure and medicine. So take care and may we all be blessed more than ever!!!
